I don't know what the Whatzit is, but I'm pretty clear what it ISN'T:

It isn't a flaw on the camera lens. The whatzit continues on it's path however the cameraman aims it.

It isn't something inserted into the video. Whatever it is has been there all along.
Quicktime has much better resolution than Microsoft Media player. Since few folks would be looking at a mpeg file with Quicktime, it went unnoticed.

I don't know what the Whatzit is, but I've got a good idea who's creation it is.
