This image (MOC SP243004
) has been brougth to my attention
from a visitor.
THis image is emblematic; taken as it is, without any processing seems unexplicable. Clearly not natural; a manufact. Some called it "the airplane" In effects, after very little processing, and further analisys, its origin becomes clear and quite natural. First of all we have to check the surrounding area: this area is portraited in the context image sp243004_gr (below).
|
| Unfortunately the
image, as it is, doesn't help much: it shows a large object, but its shape
is not deceiptable. Here comes useful the image processing tecniques we developed at mars-explore.net: the result is visible in the image below: |

| As becomes clear,
the brighter zone is not an "object", but a cliff, between a
plateau (on the right) and the plains below. The area magenta colored shows what is surrounding the fragment of the picture we are discussing (SP243004). A large and rounded-edge canyon is visible there. The white box shows the area of the nex image, processed with our usual tecniques. The white arrow's been added to show the sun rays incidence, and to give the right perspective to the scene. |

Click on the image on the left to see it rotated of 90° counterclockwise, and enlarged. With rotation the sun rays will seem come from above, instead that the right side as in the original picture: this will improve readability of the image, avoiding the optical effects that make seem this to be an object instead of the depression of the terrain that in effect is.
